The 2015 AWOL Christmas Card is finally ready, so sit back, turn up the volume and feast your eyes!
Welcome to the AWOL Blog (and for those of you who do not know what a ‘blog’ is meant to be, it is, according to the dictionary, “A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis.” The term comes from two words that were originally spliced together, ‘web’ and ‘log’ to give us ‘weblog’, and as is the nature of the modern way with words, this then got shortened to ‘blog’. This no doubt gets shortened further in text speak to just ‘blg’ but we really don’t want to go there. AWOL will post information about the newspaper, website and other ramblings that readers are free to comment on either here or on the forum, where the blog will also get published. The rules for posting remain the same, so please remind yourself of the terms and conditions of membership of AWOL before going any further.
Well it has been a long time coming but finally here is another entry to the AWOL Blog!
Hopefully you may have noticed a few changes over the last few months on this website, and today we can announce a new facility for anyone who is logged on to our Forum – the AWOL Chat Bar. This adds the capability for members of our site to have live chats with each other, and with us here at AWOL when they are online. We must stress though that you must be logged in to the forum to do this. If you are not logged in you will see a message – “Welcome, Guest. Please login or register.” – in the bar at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on those links will take you to the relevant sign up or login page for our forum. Don’t forget that if you already have a registration with AWOL, you automatically are registered at the forum, BUT if you have never previously visited the forum and logged in there your membership for the forum will not yet be active. This is a one time process after which you can log in on any part of the AWOL site, or optionally choose never to be logged out of the forum so the chat facility is always available to you whenever you visit us. Please [emailcrypt email=’’ subject=”AWOL Chat Bar” title=”Click me”]contact us by clicking here[/emailcrypt] or on the ‘Contact Us’ button at the top of your screen if you are having any technical or other difficulties with the use of this or any other parts of our website.
Since relaunching our website in the early months of this year, we have been hard at work adding to it, with the most recent addition being the AWOL Shop; we will be adding some more products to this in the next couple of months. Just in time for Christmas! We have more projects currently under wraps which we will reveal to the world in the fullness of time, so watch this space!
Thank you for reading and for visiting AWOLonline. If you are not already a reader of our weekly newspaper you can find it on this site here, here and here, as well as on Issuu.com and MediaFire (we provide a link to the latest issue there every week), and also on Facebook. The links allow you the choice of either reading the issue online or downloading to your computer.
We hope you enjoy both the newspaper and this website!
A very happy Thai New Year to everyone, and we hope you all have fun and stay safe whatever you are doing over Songkran. No AWOL this week due to the festivities but we return next Friday (20th April).
Sawasdee Pee Mai!
Let us introduce you all to the Directory; currently it doesn’t have many entries but that will change over the coming weeks and months. Essentially it is like an online yellow pages, without being yellow. It is free for any business to submit a basic listing (subject to approval), with an option to have a featured listing at a small cost (from 300 baht for 90 days). As a special opening offer, any business who is paying for advertising in the AWOL newspaper can get a free featured listing for their first 90 days (or the duration of their advert, whichever is shorter), after which they can either opt to pay for a longer period or just retain a basic listing. We are also offering the first twenty non-advertisers to submit their listing a free 90 day featured listing! (Please note that AWOL will not add listings for advertisers, or anyone else, except in special circumstances, due to time constraints, so please submit your listing yourself while the offer lasts. Please also note that a listing in the Directory). Please submit as a free listing and we will upgrade the listing for you, and contact you when it is about to expire.
Once the Directory has been more populated, it will be an unrivalled resource to find local businesses and services in the Hua Hin area, and beyond. Find and be found – use the AWOL Directory.
It has been a gruelling week trying to manipulate, beat, coax and drag our new website into shape but we are finally here! Hopefully you, our readers, will find it all worthwhile, and over the coming days and weeks (after about 30 hours of sleep) we will highlight some of the new stuff you can find here, as well as some of the old stuff that has been polished up and given a new shine. Just as a quick guide for now, there are now six sections to the site, and you will find a menu for them on the top right of every page; the sections are AWOLonline, Classifieds, Directory, Forum,Property and Travel. On every section you will find a section menu below and to the left next to the section logo, which you can use to navigate that section. For anyone who has an existing AWOL Forum or Classifieds username, please follow the instructions on the Login page to activate your account site wide.
So until then, adieu, and have a great time exploring and contributing to the new AWOLonline.
